Central Italy’s region of Lazio is offering couples who want to get married 2000 euros, which comes out to about $2300, to spend on their wedding if they decide to get married there. The country is the second most populated region and is home to capital city Rome.
The region’s website listed the wedding fund, which in Italian is called “Nel Lazio con amore,” meaning “From Lazio With Love.” The fund will remain in place until January 31st, 2023, or until the money runs out.
Anyeone is welcome to apply for the fund whether they are local or international tourists. The only conditions are that they “marry or civilly unite in Lazio” anytime between January 1st, 2022 and December 31st, 2022 and also “purchase services or products related to the event from Lazio companies.”
The fund’s purpose is meant to revamp the local wedding industry as well as local tourism industries which both took a major hit because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Couples can spend the fund money on services like venues, catering, wedding planners, floral arrangements, photographers, attire, rings, and also up to 700 euros can go towards a honeymoon.
According to the Guardian, just 9000 couples got married in Lazio since the pandemic began. Compared to the 15,000 couples that got married in the year 2020, the industries really suffered a major hit because of the virus.
President of Lazio Nicola Zingaretti said that the wedding sector “suffered badly from the economic crisis.” He also said that they decided to put in “significant investment in place also with an eye on the tourism sector, and with the awareness and pride of being able to boast about every part of our region.”
Lazio is a great location for a wedding, as it is home to sites like the Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, and the Spanish Steps. Imagine the photos at those locations! There are also plenty of countryside villas in the outskirts of Rome that would serve as perfect wedding venues.
