As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to drag on, bring wave after wave, a lot of people have been looking for travel options that are safe and okay to travel to. Hawaii has become a very popular destination for this reason, as it is the perfect destination to provide an island getaway and a much-needed break we all need from this crazy new reality we have all been dealing with.
The state has become such a popular choice, United Airlines has added more service to Hawaii, including three new routes. These include a direct flight from Chicago to Kona as well as one from Newark to Maui.
Best of all, United has allowed passengers traveling to Hawaii to have the option of what’s referred to as a “pre-clearance” program. This lets passengers verify all of their documents before boarding their flight instead of upon landing.
Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of international network and alliance shared: “People are looking at Hawaii as an outlet and people are willing to pay for what they value. We can move the airplanes wherever there is demand [and] there’s more demand to Hawaii now during a pandemic than there ever was to Hawaii pre-pandemic.”
While in Hawaii, Maui is a fantastic option, as it is home to gorgeous beaches and plenty of family-friendly fun activities. You can experience the local cultural identity of the island that makes it truly unique.
You can walk through taro paddies with Maui Cultural Lands, an organization that offers tourists volunteer initiatives that will help them understand local culture.
President of Maui Cultural Lands Ekolu Lindsay said: “You can’t just share ‘aloha,’ you have to understand what it is. And to understand it, you have to go through a process. “It’s not just ‘eat, stay, and play,’ it’s… to give back. By connecting to all of that, you create better visitors, better people, and then they get to take that home and do that wherever they’re from. So by doing that, I think you can create a better world.”
