Published on February 15, 2018
Having clear, beautiful skin can make any guy or gal feel gorgeous in their own way. There are some people who are just genetically blessed with practically perfect skin and on the other hand, some of us out there really have to go that extra mile to get that flawless look. But did you know that if you make just a few small changes in your day to day routine, it can really have a massive impact on having better skin. Here’s 10 easy tips that you needed in your life, yesterday.

Limit caffeine:

Don’t shoot the messenger! Tragically, caffeine is extremely drying on your skin, which is why it’s crucial to limit cups of coffee to once a day so that your skin keeps hydrated. If you’re going to drink coffee (because who are we kidding, you need it), than make sure you’re drinking at least two cups of water for every cup of coffee you have. If you drink excess amounts of coffee without drinking the water to balance it out – your skin will dry out, break and will ultimately lead to wrinkles. Every women’s dream, right? Didn’t think so.

Exercise:

Go figure. Your skin is genuinely a living, breathing organ – regular exercise will work your pores so that they release toxins. As you work out, blood moves to your skin and works your skin from the inside out – what a pretty picture. Additionally, exercise helps to reduce stress and we all know that stress is a leading cause for acne and stress lines.

Limit sugar:

First we say, limit your caffeine consumption and now we’re saying limit sugar intake too! Sugar is super addictive, it’s actually been reported to be more addictive than cocaine or heroin – now that’s just scary considering now-a-days, sugar is practically in everything. Consuming excess amounts of sugar can cause inflammation in your skin which flares up acne (lovely) and causes rosacea (“adult acne”, even better). If you eat foods that are rich and high on the glycemic index than you’re eating food that raises your blood sugar, which lo and behold, causes inflammation and that in turn breaks down the collagen and elasticity in your skin. Sounds peachy. Next time you think sugar is only making you fat, think about what it’s doing to your skin.

Natural masks:

Using a natural mask is a real treat for you skin, no really it is. If you’re looking for a natural scrub, stick to brown sugar mixed with coconut oil. If you’d like a little glow after using a natural mask, try a manuka honey mask at least twice a week – this also has antibacterial properties which is an added bonus. If you have dry skin then you should definitely mix some milk with cucumber. Go on, treat yourself.

Drink lots of water:

Sounds simple enough, right? Well it should be, water is crucial to our overall well being. Water keeps skin moisturized and youthful while creating a natural glow, plus it keeps collagen intact. To get all that, you need to drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. If you find drinking plain ol’ water too bland or difficult, try adding some fruit like strawberries, raspberries, lemons or blueberries.

Use a toner:

If you’re not sure what toner is, it’s the stuff that keeps your skin nice and firm, plus it keeps moisture intact. It’s pretty important. Using toner before putting on any moisturizer or beauty products is an essential step to having the flawless skin you deserve and desire. If your skin is particularly oily – try using a Witch hazel or even Seabreeze. If your skin is dry, however, use a toner that is Aloe Vera based. Whatever you do, don’t skip this step, it’s crucial to include it in your daily skin care routine.

Cleanse twice a day:

A majority of skin imperfections come from having clogged pores, and clogged pores are a result of trapped dirt and grime. The trick to having fewer clogged pores then is to cleanse twice, yes I know, it sounds too good to be true. But it does make a difference. Use an oil based cleanser first to break down any make up or lotion or you can use ‘Micellar Cleansing Water’. ‘Micellar Cleansing Water’ is available almost anywhere, just add a dab on a cotton pad and wipe this on your face. Once you’ve done either of those, step two is to use a simple soap to get that ultimate feeling of cleanliness. Do not make the mistake of starting with the soap because it will only give you a false sense of feeling clean and it will ultimately push more dirt into the pores – counteracting what you’re trying to achieve in the first place.

Get a facial:

Now this is a handy tip, as facials are a great way to avoid a lot of skin imperfections. However, leave this one to the professionals so that they can properly purge your skin of pesky imperfections and watch as your skin is revived! Do a serious amount of research before you go visit an esthetician – it’s important you find someone who really knows what they’re doing and you get along with them. Remember, extractions are super important to keep your skin as young and fresh as it can be.

This is probably the biggest secret to flawless skin – proper moisturization. It doesn’t matter if your skin is oily, dry, or both, moisturizer is key to help make your skin so much nicer. Especially if you want to avoid getting wrinkles as you get older, then you best include moisturizer as soon as you can. Even as early as in your 20’s and 30’s. Get to it!
