Sushi Mosaic World Record
Do you like sushi? Just how much do you like sushi? Would you say that you like it so much that you would eat a mosaic of 880 kilograms of salmon and 400 kilograms of rice? This record was set in Norway in 2016. The entire mosaic took up 56.50 square meters! Still thinking about all that sushi? Bon appétit!
Longest Distance Dragged By Horse While On Fire
This is definitely not a world record that parents and teachers encourage young children to pursue. In fact, most people wouldn’t even think of this, but daredevil Josef Tödtling of Austria did. A horse pulled him an incredible 1640 feet while his protective suit flamed away. Come to think about it, he might have been the first person to break the record for a grass burn too.
Largest Mailbox
You’ve got mail! Actually, you’ve got 5,743 feet of mail. Jim Bolin of Illinois created this massive, record-breaking mailbox and successfully broke a record that was probably never attempted before anyway. Visitors can access a stairway to the top and become completely enveloped in the mailbox. Har har!
Most Teeth Brushers
What is a good way to promote oral hygiene? One idea might be to take 10,800 students in Manila, Philippines and get them to break a world record. If the health department could keep this up, they wouldn’t have to worry about medical insurance for a good while.
Most Toilet Seats Broken With Head
All Kevin Shelly of the USA was thinking was, “I’ve got a head, I’ve got some toilet seats.” The rest is history. While in Germany on the 1st of September, 2007 he broke 46 wooden toilets on his head for a TV show. He was still conscious when he received the Guinness World Record.
Most Insured Hair
He might have been an NFL star, but most people will remember him more for his hair. As the spokesperson for Head and Shoulders, he had his overflowing head of hair insured for $1 million! That would be one helluva costly haircut, if you ask me!
Largest Bubble Gum Bubble
When Chad Fell’s school teachers told him to stop chewing gum, they didn’t know they almost stopped a star from rising. On April 24th, Fell blew the biggest bubblegum bubble without the aid of his hands – 50.8 cm (20 inch) diameter! What’s his secret? He uses just three pieces of “Dubble Bubble” gum.
Wealthiest Cat
This is no ordinary cat, he is a meow-llionaire! When her owner died in 1988, he left a fortune of some $12.5 million to the last surviving cat of his mansion, Blackie. Apparently he wasn’t all that close to anyone else. Lucky for Blackie, because that can buy one heck load of catnip!
Largest Human Rainbow
South Africa might be the official “rainbow nation”, but Hong Kong took one on them here. Around 31,000 students gathered in 2002 to form the largest human rainbow and it was a beautiful sight! If you’re color-blind, this still looks pretty darn cool.
Most Mahatma Gandhis
How can you raise awareness about great leaders in history? One way would be to make a massive dress-up party and set a world record. On Mahatma Gandhi’s 146th birthday, 4,605 children dressed up as the peaceful leader and broke a world record that most countries probably wouldn’t try compete with.
Longest Time Spinning Basketball On Toothbrush
Mr. Thaneshwar Guragai took the activity he loved most and the one he loved least and mixed them together. He successfully broke a world record (which no-one ever tried before probably) by spinning a basketball on a toothbrush which was in his mouth, for 22.41 seconds. Think you can top it?
Most Cans Opened By A Parrot
Can he do it? Yes, he can! Zac the Macaw doesn’t just speak, the California-born parrot holds the world record for being able to open 35 cans of soda in just one minute! Polly most certainly doesn’t want a cracker… he wants a soda!
Fastest 100 Meters Run With Fins
This is what happens when you’re a mermaid but you also want to be a track record breaker. German-born Maren Zonker set the world record for running 100-meter hurdles with swimming fins of her feet. Her time was 22.35 seconds and she completed it on September 13th, 2008.
Largest Pair Of Shoes
“If the shoe fits…” Weeeell, this probably doesn’t apply when it comes to shoes of this size. The biggest pair of shoes in the world can be found in Turkey and they are 5.5 meters long and 1.83 tall. If you wanted to (I don’t know why) you could fit 30 people inside of them.
Biggest Pillow Fight
Now this is a record we’ve probably all thought about but have never pursued. It took 6,261 participants with pillows to break the world record for the biggest pillow fight. The ‘fight’ took place in Minnesota in 2015. Sounds like a good world record to try break!
