Spend The Perfect Weekend In Providence, Rhode Island

While Rhode Island is the smallest state in the country, it should not be overlooked. You can visit its largest city Providence, which is about an hour and a half away from Boston and just about 4 hours away from New York City. You can make it as a day trip if you’re really ambitious and coming from Boston, or you take take a leisurely weekend trip there and enjoy everything Providence has to offer.

You can start by taking a walk around the downtown area. Caffeinate yourself at Bolt Coffee, which you’ll find located in the Dean Hotel. If you want more of a sit down breakfast or brunch, head to the Grange.

Make sure you take a look at the Industrial National Bank Building, which everyone just called the Superman Building. You can then head towards the local beaches, which are not to miss. Barrington Beach and RISD Beach are about a 30 minute drive from downtown. You can also visit India Point Park to see the beautiful bay.

If you’re oaky with waiting in line, you must try Tallulah’s Taqueria for delicious and fresh Mexican food that has great outdoor seating space, so if the weather’s nice, you can enjoy your meal outside. If you want seafood, head to Dune Brother’s Seafood and make sure to try the chowder, a New England staple.

Local craft beer enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that Providence has a great scene going for it. You can visit breweries like The Guild and Foolproof Brewing Company in Pawtucket. Head to the West End area to visit the Long Live Beerworks if you are an IPA lover.

For dinner, make sure to try out Oberlin, a local restaurant and wine bar that has a great relaxed atmosphere. The highlights here include the gnocchi with braised duck and kohlrabi Caesar salad.

If you’re here for a weekend, then for your second day, start out at The Shop in Fox Point for a wonderful breakfast and coffee to get you going. You can take a day trip to Newport and Jamestown Island, which are close by and will give you a great beach town experience.

Head to Ocean Drive Historic District and take a walk on the Cliff Walk, which will take you all along the shoreline. For lunch, head over to Flo’s Clam Shack, a local staple that’s been around since 1936 and has a menu full of delicious seafood including chowder and a raw bar.

Head over to Jamestown and take a hike at Beaverhill State Park. The small town sights are lovely, and you can stop by Village Hearth Bakery Cafe for delicious bread and pastries. Take some with you for when you’re on the trail! Walk by the coastal cliffs and dip in the water if the weather permits. You can also visit the Beaverhill Lighthouse Museum. The drive through the park is a loop, which is quite convenient.
