The region, which is home to cities like Trieste and Udine, is looking to boost local tourism and shared on its website: “Book in one of the affiliated facilities in Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine, and Trieste, and Friuli Venezia Giulia gives you the train ticket!”
In addition to refunding train tickets, the region will also provide visitors with a FVGcard that provides discounts and often free tickets for many of the area’s attractions so that you can “enjoy your holiday following your passions!”
Some interesting things to do in Trieste include visiting the Salone degli Incanti, which has a Banksy exhibit, at a reduced ticket price. You can also visit other museums and cultural centers in the city for free. There’s also a lovely beach town by the Adriatic Sea in Lagnano Sabbiadoro, which is located east of Venice.
At Udine, you can enjoy visiting the Udine Castle and other architectural sights including the Udine Cathedral, Piazza della Liberta — which has been called “the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland,” and the stunning Gothic Loggia del Lionello. Of course, you can also enjoy the wine that’s well known from this region. Much like nearby Venice, Udine also has canals that are beautiful to see.
In order to get the benefits of the promotion, visitors will have to stay in the region for two nights at minimum and also book a package at a participating hotel. Then the cost of the train ticket will be deducted from the package.
Trenitalia also offers a Trenitalia Pass that will allow multiple visits, namely three trips within 7 days, for €129, which is a great deal if you’re already planning on taking the train as your main mode of transportation.
