12 Surprising Gay Celebs

Published on January 5, 2018
Though it may surprise people who have grown up in this current social climate, it hasn’t always been easy for an actor to be both homosexual and successful in Hollywood. Many celebrities and entertainers opt to hide their true sexuality in favor of a more lucrative career. Finally things are starting to change and we are seeing more and more celebrities show their true colors with the ‘believe in love’ movement. Listed below are 12 of our favorite celebrities who happened to shock us when they came out to the public!

Megan Fox

Megan Fox is the Hollywood super babe that needs no introduction. Fox burst onto the scene at the age of 15 with her work on Holiday in the Sun. Fox would go on to star in Transformers alongside Shia LaBeouf before locking in as the a lead in the revitalized Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. While Fox has had meteoric success as both an actress and a sex icon, she has never been shy about making a loud statement. Fox came out as bisexual in 2008 and has been very vocal about her belief in ‘open love’, that is a sexual attraction to humans first, not gender. While Fox gets taken for a party girl thanks to the image she’s portrayed in films the actress insists that is far from the truth. Fox says she’s antisocial and a complete shut-in when out of the spotlight.

Neil Patrick Harris

You probably know him as the playboy star Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother, but Neil Patrick Harris has had a long, and deep, career before that. NPH, as his fans call him, made the leap into Hollywood as the child star on Doogie Howser MD. Since then the 42-year-old New Mexico native has turned into one of the biggest triple threats in Hollywood. Neil is handsome, supremely talented as an actor, and one heck of a singer as well. The fan favored actor came out in 2006 as he told reporters that he is “a very content gay man” who was “living life to the fullest”. Neil Patrick Harris would end up marrying his long time partner, David Burtka, in 2014 after the Marriage Equality Act had gained traction. With Harris’ success at every level of entertainment we wouldn’t be surprised to see people buying Broadway tickets with his face on them in the future.

Anna Paquin

You could have bought World Series tickets if you had bet that two of the lead actors in the hit X-Men movie were homosexual, but you probably wouldn’t have made that bet. Yet, it’s true and Anna Paquin, who starred as the edgy character Rogue, is second on our list of X-Men actors. Anna Paquin was born in Canada and raised in New Zealand before leaping full force into Hollywood back in 1994. She had an Academy Award next to her name by the age of 11, the second youngest performer to ever accomplish this feat, and right now stars in the HBO show True Blood. It’s easy to see why Paquin has elevated to super star heights and she hasn’t been afraid to use her celebrity to speak strongly for LGBT rights. Paquin is openly bisexual and helped to create the True Colours Fund.

Raven Symone

If you grew up in the ’90s then you probably had a serious crush, at some point, on TV star Raven Symone. Raven Symone made her debut in 1989 on The Cosby Show and would later gain fame on the Disney Channel for her work on That’s So Raven. Between filming commitments Raven would go on to make a serious splash in the musical world, charting up to #68 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999. Right now Raven is on the hit drama Empire alongside Taraji P Henson and Terrence Howard. Carrie Brownstein

Carrie Brownstein is one half of the hilarious quirk-duo that stars on the show Portlandia. Alongside Fred Armisen, Brownstein has become one of Hollywood’s most underrated comedic actors. Known for her ability to jump from role to role and revered for work as a guitarist in the band Excuse 17. Brownstein is becoming more and more influential as her work becomes more and more exposed. Brownstein was ‘outed’ by an article written by Spin rather than going public on her own. In 2006 Brownstein made it clear that she was bisexual, but described her relationship with writing partner Fred Armisen as one of the most “intimate, functional, romantic” nonsexual relationships she has ever had.
