While a lot of actors, singers, and models start out in commercials or reality TV, a lot of famous people in the industry actually launched their careers after competing in beauty pageants. While you might have known that some beauty contest winners pivoted to other careers in the entertainment industry, we’re sure that some of these will still surprise you. Take a look at some of the most famous faces who got their start in the pageant circuit.

Diane Sawyer is best known as the former news anchor for ABC World News. However, you might not be aware of the fact that she was the 1963 Junior Miss scholarship pageant representative for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She came in first place, winning the scholarship.

In 1972, Lynda Carter was crowned Miss World USA, meaning she went on to represent the U.S. in the Miss World contest the next year. She did not end up winning Miss World, but she did go on to become very well known.
