Those people had no idea who the woman was, and she would soon school them on it. When a photograph fell from her purse, it enlightened them, and she felt vindicated.
A Mythical Place
Mrs. Wilson lived in a small town, so it surprised her to see the many security guards at the airport. She’d never seen anything like it, and her eyes darted in all directions at once. This place was crowded, and she had no idea where to go!
The Metal Detector
The woman liked to put her keys in her shoes so that she wouldn’t lose them and had done that today. However, they set off the metal detector, and the security guard asked her to follow him.
Come with Us
Though polite, the security guards told her to empty everything from her pockets because the metal detector had gone off. They had to do this or pat her down. She removed the key, apologizing for the mistake, and went to the gates.
Not Paying Attention
Though Mrs. Wilson tried her best to dress well, people avoided her. They thought she was a beggar and wondered why she was there. It shocked them more when she attempted to get on the plane.
Business Class Ticket
She couldn’t go online to download her ticket and print it, so she headed to the service desk for a physical copy. The employee was shocked because it didn’t seem like the woman could afford it or be trusted on the flight.
Almost Missing Her Flight
Since she’d caused such a stir, she almost missed her flight. She wasn’t sure where to go, so she followed the other passengers. However, they were going to other gates, and she panicked when she realized her mistake!
Friendly Employee
An airport worker finally helped Mrs. Wilson arrive at the right gate. He asked her if he could help with anything, and she almost cried with relief while she nodded her head. He was the only one so far who had shown respect.
Snooty Smile
The other passengers were boarding the flight when she arrived, and the ticket checker smiled condescendingly. Still, it was his job to look at the ticket and tell her where to go. Then, he said she should wait there so she wouldn’t get lost.
Worried
She was nervous while she waited and checked her watch almost constantly. Plus, she wouldn’t put her wallet away and held it firmly in her hands. Another business class rider asked if it was her first time flying.
Time to Board
Mrs. Wilson responded that it was her first time flying, and she was nervous. As the boarding continued, a flight attendant smiled at her when it was her turn. This poor woman was shaking uncontrollably!
Helped to the Gate
While waiting to get on the plane, a young boy saw her and offered assistance. She struggled to get out her plane ticket, and he helped her to the entrance. The shock on his face when he saw the business class ticket was comical.
The Ticket
His reaction was like many that day. She looked shabby but could afford a business-class ticket? He wanted to get one for himself but couldn’t justify the cost. Now, he decided to trick the old woman.
She’s in Economy
After the check-in, the man helped Mrs. Wilson to her seat. It was kind, but he was really tricking her into taking his economy seat so that he could be in business class. He thought it would be easy, but he had no idea who she was.
Quickly Getting Seated
People had to walk through business class to get to economy. While the young man tried doing this fast, Mrs. Wilson knew where her seat was. Therefore, she stopped at it, which annoyed the man.
The Struggle Continued
The young man walked to his economy seat and held his head low. She had thanked him for his help but knew where to sit now. This gave her some relief, and she thought she was free and clear now.
Not Satisfied
A good-looking man sat next to Mrs. Wilson, but he looked disapprovingly at her. He caught the attention of the flight attendant and asked her if it was business class. Then, he had the audacity to ask why he paid extra to sit next to a beggar!
Staying Calm
The flight attendant told Mr. Thompson to calm down because Mrs. Wilson had a similar ticket. Then, she asked him to look at the boarding pass. In fact, she knew the woman was the pilot’s mom, but he was still upset and rude.
Taking Sides
The poor woman couldn’t say a word and stayed quiet because she was scared. Other passengers chose sides without thinking. Most people felt sorry for her, but others didn’t like her being in business class.
Surprising Support
One passenger stood up for the woman, and it came as a surprise. It was the man who earlier had tried to steal her seat. He felt bad for that, so he rushed to her side when he heard an argument break out.
Show Some Respect
He had to help her because the other male passenger was treating her so poorly. In fact, he said that the woman was older than him, and the man had to be a real lowlife.
Embarrassing
Mr. Thompson felt ashamed and calmed down once the man had spoken his mind. However, calamity ensued in business class. The flight attendant had no idea what to do and looked desperately at Mrs. Wilson.
Switching to Economy
Mrs. Wilson knew she was the root of the commotion here. She said she wasn’t going to fight about it, and she would go to economy class if she had to. Tears sprang into her eyes, and she felt completely defeated.
Something Fell Out
Overall, Mr. Thompson couldn’t take the glares from the other passengers, and he felt bad. He took the newspaper from his seat and asked her to sit. She’d paid for it, and she deserved it. Something fell from her purse…
An Old Photo
The elderly woman couldn’t speak and sat down. However, her purse had opened up while she did, causing a photograph to fall out. It was old and had tattered borders. Mr. Thompson tried to make up for his bad actions and picked it up.
The Boy
He saw a young boy in the photograph and asked if the picture meant a lot to her. Then, he handed it to her. She took it carefully from his hands, acting like it was the most expensive jewel in the world. Then, she smiled!
My Son
Mrs. Wilson told her story, saying that it was a picture of her son, Peter. Her family was large and lived in poverty. Her parents ran a farm, and she was the oldest. However, when she became pregnant, things took a turn for the worst.
Keep It Safe
Dorothy’s father went into the military when WWII broke out, and he fought the Japanese off the Pacific Ocean. He had given Dorothy a gold family heirloom that his grandfather had passed to him, asking her to keep it safe until he got home.
Grief
Sadly, he didn’t make it, and his body was shipped back. It tore the family apart, and they were grieving and unable to make ends meet. Her dad had been the breadwinner, and her mom never recovered.
Staying with Mom
Time continued on, and Dorothy wanted to start a family. However, she had to take care of her disabled brother and be with her mom. The two older children went to the big city, leaving everyone else behind.
The Love of Her Life
Dorothy was 28 years old when she met her husband for the first time. Jack herded sheep and was a good-looking man. They had an incredibly intense relationship, and she believed she was in a fairytale!
Bad Luck
The couple was happy and planning their wedding, but the Wilson family’s bad luck struck again. Her disabled brother had accidentally set the house on fire, and Jack tried to save him. They both died.
Living in a Hut
Dorothy and her mom had to stay in an old hut because they couldn’t afford anything else. Selling Jack’s sheep put food on the table for a while, but now Dorothy was also pregnant. Plus, her mom was now aggressive because of the dementia.
Beautiful Little Boy
Her mother would often chase her with a knife, blaming her for everything. Dorothy gave birth to Peter, but she worried that her mom might try to kill the baby. This went on for three years, and then she took him to an orphanage.
Better Off
Though she was extremely sad, Dorothy felt that her son needed to be away from his grandmother and sent him to an orphanage. Dorothy took care of her mom until she died, and then she tried to get Peter back!
Adopted
The orphanage told her that her son had been adopted, and she spent the rest of her life searching for him. However, it had taken that long to reach her goal. She’s turned to an organization that reunited separated families!
Her 89th Birthday
Dorothy wanted to be close to her son, who was also on the airplane, so she bought the business-class ticket. She’d be reunited with him on her 89th birthday and could die in peace because her son was okay.
Important Message
Everyone on the airplane was touched by Dorothy’s story. Some gained a new outlook because of it. Mrs. Wilson didn’t see the flight attendant rush away to the cockpit, but a few moments later, there was an announcement.
The Captain Speaks
The captain spoke over the intercom and said that the flight was almost over, but their lives weren’t. Life was full of good and bad, but no one was luckier than another. Everyone has opportunities and must choose how to use them.
I Love Her
He went on to say that forgiveness isn’t taught, and no one should be blamed when there’s nothing wrong. You can’t always understand someone’s situation. Then, he said that he loved his mom and had already forgiven her a long time ago.
Standing Ovation
After hearing the speech, the passengers stood up and applauded. Everything turned out well, and Mrs. Wilson finally got to hold her son after so many years. She finally gave her son the golden heirloom like she’d always wanted.
