However, one couple had a problem with their neighbor and his dislike for Christmas. They fought hard to keep their holiday lights up, even with him complaining and demanding they remove them. Though they had every right to use them, he exacted revenge, which was enough to make them wish to move.
What did they do to thwart the evil neighbor who apparently hated Christmas? You’ll have to continue reading to find out!
Can’t Believe It
The Christmas festivities were in full swing, but when one couple pulled into their driveway, they were shocked to see what the neighbor did. It shattered their holiday spirit, and they got out of the vehicle, frozen at the atrocity!
Loving the Neighborhood
Rosie and Phil Hutcherson had lived in the same home for the past seven years. It was actually the perfect neighborhood because everyone was kind and pleasant. You couldn’t find a better place to grow and live life!
Turning for the Worst
Though Rosie and Phil loved their home and neighborhood, things were soon to take a turn for the worst. However, they had no idea what would happen once the new neighbor had moved in. What was wrong with him?!
Going Nowhere
Rosie and Phil saw people coming and going in the neighborhood, but they didn’t want to move. They loved their home and neighbors, but nothing could last forever. In fact, they packed their bags, promising never to return.
The New Week
Phil and Rosie were getting ready for the beginning of the new week. The pair sipped coffee and ate toast together before they had to go to work. It was time to get back to the old grindstone, and they were refreshed and prepared.
The Moving Van
As they both headed out of the house, they slammed the front door. They couldn’t help noticing a moving van parked across the street. This intrigued them slightly, but they were in a rush.
New Neighbor
The house right in front of them had actually been for sale for a couple of months. Now, it looked like Rosie and Phil would get a brand-new neighbor. They wondered what the person would be like, expecting nothing less than politeness and charm.
Introducing Themselves
Rosie and Phil were not afraid to meet new people and make friends. In fact, they were always there to welcome new neighbors into their community immediately. It was just in their nature to be helpful and kind.
After Work
When the couple returned home from work later in the day, they went over to the new neighbor’s house. They had a basket full of treats, and Rosie rang the doorbell. The pair waited anxiously for the new neighbor to appear.
Jacob
After a while, the door opened, and Jacob was there. He didn’t say much but grabbed the basket of goods from Rosie, muttering a word of thanks. Though he wasn’t really rude, it wasn’t very gracious of him.
Settling In
A few weeks had gone by, and it seemed that Jacob, the new neighbor, was settling in well. However, he rarely acknowledged the couple or said hello. Still, Rosie and Phil made sure to greet him with a wave each time they noticed him.
No Idea
December had finally arrived, and everyone was enjoying the many festivities. Phil and Rosie enjoyed decorating their home, but they had no clue that the new neighbor would ruin Christmas for them. What did he do?!
Christmas Time
This couple truly loved Christmas and went all out. In fact, Rosie transformed their home into Santa’s village each year. Everyone who saw it was immediately filled with the holiday spirit, but Jacob was determined to ruin their good cheer!
Disgust
Phil and Rosie noticed that the neighbor was marching around his property with a look of sheer disgust on his face. Could the twinkling lights and fun-loving snowflakes assault him that much?!
It Must Go
The couple ended up looking at each other when the neighbor appeared in front of their eyes. They each put on a fake smile but were shocked when the man said, “that has to go,” while pointing to their home. What was his problem?!
No Way
Rosie and Phil were in disbelief. She asked the neighbor what he’d said, believing that she’d heard wrong. In fact, her blood boiled, and she told him that it was Christmas time, those were Christmas lights, and they were staying. Jacob wasn’t happy with the response.
Cursing
He began swearing at Rosie, and his voice got louder and louder. Finally, Phil intervened, demanding that the neighbor back up. Though he left, that wasn’t the end of the event, and he planned to do something horrible.
Won’t Back Down
When the neighbor went back to his house, Rosie turned toward her husband and said, “he can’t do that! We’re not getting rid of our lights.” The couple turned to look at the beautiful home and knew it had to stay. However, their neighbor was plotting revenge.
Going Home
Rosie and Phil had spent the Saturday shopping for Christmas presents. They were now on their way home with festively hot drinks. In fact, they sang along to the Christmas songs they heard on the radio, but they were at a loss for words when they got to their house.
Offensive
When they pulled into the driveway, they saw that their neighbor had put up some decorations, which spelled a rude word. The cuss word then had an arrow beneath it that pointed to Rosie and Phil’s home.
Boiling Rage
Immediately, Phil parked the car in the driveway, and they felt anger boiling up from beyond. They couldn’t stop themselves from marching over to the man’s house to give him a piece of their minds. They were that angry!
The Confrontation
Rosie and Phil banged on the neighbor’s door, and he opened it with a smirk on his face. The couple demanded that he take it down, but he said the same thing to them that Rosie had said a few days ago. Then, he slammed his door without another word.
No Help
They tried hard to get their neighbor to remove those rude lights. In fact, they went so far as to call the council, but they were told that Christmas lights were not a priority for them. They were even featured on the local news!
The Curse Word Stays
Sadly, nothing Phil and Rosie did made a difference. That cuss word stayed on the man’s wall, offensive and blinking. It hurt them, but they decided they had to take things into their own hands. What did they do?!
Yule Battle Starts
The first step for Phil and Rosie was to get more lights and plenty of them! The stores were still packed with holiday decorations, so there were many to choose from. They put twinkle lights, multi-colored bulbs, and other adornments in the cart. This man would get his battle!
Getting Started
They arrived back home and sorted through all the decorations they had purchased. Phil and Rosie actually grabbed a bottle of wine to toast their clever plan. Though it started out as calm and enjoyable, it escalated quickly.
Different Energy
Now, they were giggling and wanted to put the “message” up as quickly as they could. In fact, the goal was to finish it all before the neighbor returned home. They’d barely closed their door and turned on the switch when they heard his vehicle.
New Look
When he arrived home, Jacob’s face soured more, if that was possible. Phil turned to his wife with a huge grin, and they started laughing. Stage one had been accomplished, but they weren’t finished with their revenge attack.
Power Bill
This couple planned to break the man down with their amazing Christmas spirit. It didn’t matter if the setup was tacky or not or if they had a huge electricity bill the following month. They would get their revenge, regardless of the means.
Scarecrow
Rosie wasn’t done with Jacob yet. Now, she grabbed a pile of older clothing items and chose the perfect outfit. She stuffed the insides with paper to create a winter scarecrow that would rock the neighborhood.
Perfectly Planned
Their schedule of revenge unfolded like an advent calendar. When it all started, the obnoxious man didn’t know what had hit him. He’d come home each day and see a new element they added, getting angry. Finally, he left a note on their door.
Angry Note
Jacob’s note was quite rude, saying that he hoped Santa’s reindeer stomped on their heads because all the lights would guide him there. Though he probably thought it was clever, it actually had an unintended effect.
Others Catch On
They could clearly see that the Christmas spark they’d created was spreading and catching. However, they never realized that other people would see it, as well. That next morning, they noticed a box on the doorstep.
The Cause
The house across the street was watching the scene, and those neighbors chose to contribute to Phil and Rosie’s vengeance plan. They’d gathered old decorations, donating them to their “cause.” Word spread, so more donations were soon to come.
Thank You
Rosie enjoyed seeing each new box of holiday cheer, and she would always put a thank you note in the mailboxes of her neighbors who helped. However, she always omitted the names and any other identifying information.
Like a Comedy Movie
Their home no longer looked like a well-planned display. In fact, it was a December explosion that rivaled any comedy movie you’ve seen. Jacob seemed like he was ready to burn down their tree, though the last stage of the plan was unexpected.
Enjoying the Sight
Rosie liked to sip hot chocolate while looking out at the “Clark Griswold” scarecrow she’d crafted from their old clothing. Everyone could see it dangling from anywhere on the street because it hung directly from the eaves.
Message Gone
They chose to add a “Grinch” message to the ensemble and had an arrow pointing to the neighbor’s home. However, when she glanced at his house, she realized his message had been removed. Phil and Rosie had won. What about those extra decorations, though?
Good Memory
She took some of the decorations down, including the Grinch one. The grand gesture they’d made had been read loud and clear now. They were victorious, and they no longer had to push Jacob.
Returning the Decorations
After New Year’s Day, Rosie and Phil returned all the decorations they’d been gifted for their revenge plan. Things started off badly, but it turned into a fun and memorable holiday for the couple!
