When Raquel Welch played the character of Hannie Caulder in 1971, she became the first woman to play a leading role in a western. It wasn’t common for women to play strong roles instead of being the femme fatales. Quentin Tarantino said that Welch was the inspiration for his movie, Kill Bill in 2003.
