The following month, December 2007, Joran Van der Sloot is released. Why? Lack of evidence again, and the prosecution said it wouldn’t appeal and so they didn’t. Natalee’s parents still didn’t have any answers and the case had no end in sight. Things only got worse from there.

By mid-December, the Aruban police had no further leads and prosecutor Hans Mos declared the case closed. However prosecutes still continued to look into Joran and the Kalpoe brothers. Of course the attorneys of the Kalpoe brothers and Van der Sloot were outraged. Attorney Ronald Wix eventually said, “Unless (Mos) finds a body in the bathroom of one of these kids, there’s no way in hell they can arrest them anymore.”
