Johnny Cash had quite the influence on Dolly, and in more than one way. Aside from telling her to pursue her music career (good advice, we agree), he also became her first official crush. She described the first time she saw him play, “I was sitting in the audience and that’s when I first knew about sex appeal… he had this tick when he moved his shoulder… and it was still sexy. It still got to me.”

Uhh, yeah, Dolly is way more than just a talented singer and songwriter, she’s also incredibly business savvy. Early on, she created Velvet Apple Music (BMI), which really allowed her to own the copyrights and publishing of her own beautiful songs. In addition to this, in 2007 she also released her own record label, Dolly Records. So when the record label was first released, Dolly was actually the only person to appear on the label. This way she had total power to create her own marketing deals. Slay, Dolly, slay.
